Here at TSM we are ever boldly going where millions have trod before. This post is an experiment in displaying a video hosted on YouTube. If all goes well you should be able to see some fascinating footage of the demolition of the Victoria Railway Station which made way for the Victoria Shopping Centre we know and love today.

Thank you for this very interesting footage. I recall the old Victoria Station very well and that brought a boyhood memory or two back.
Pity it was demolished in my humble opinion. It was a handsome building and also a much better railway station that the one that remains.

Hi Stuart,
Being a newbie to Nottingham (only about 12 years in the city) I never really saw the original station but from the footage it seems like it was a magnificent building. A real city asset squandered. I couldn’t resist posting Geoff Jones’s video as a practice.
Kind regards
Alan

Hi Alan.
I’m not originally from Nottingham but have spent the majority of my life here. The city seems so very different to when I was a youngster and first came here. Ironically the Victoria Station was the one me and my family would use to travel back to Scotland regularly.
The Victoria Centre was built in around 1970 and was arguably the first mall in the country. I think that many local people believed that the ‘wrong’ station had been demolished.
I often visit the site, http://nottstalgia.com/forums and would recommend it if you’re interested at all in this type of thing. Unfortunately it’s ‘down’ today but there are some good images of the area where the Victoria Centre is now, notably the Milton’s Head pub, a large building that stood where the main entrance to the Centre is now.
Here’s a nice site about the Victoria Railway Station: http://homepage.ntlworld.com/nick.willis/
Best wishes.

Its a shame that this station, on par with any in London, and bringing visitors direct to the centre of the city from both north and south, was demolished! It nice to see this footage on the web, and we would be interested in seeing more that we can link from The Nottingham Forums.
