Third Sector Media’s Weblog

Press Release: Charity begins not so much at home, but at your homepage

Third Sector Media, a social enterprise providing charities and voluntary organisations with professional website design, has recently come across research that could be of real value to community groups in Nottingham.

According to a recent article in Third Sector magazine, one of the UK’s leading publications for those working in the charity and voluntary sector, more people than ever are visiting charity websites. In fact, the research shows that the proportion of visitors to charity websites has risen by a third in recent months, whilst over the last five years, the numbers have almost doubled.

It’s a similar story for voluntary organisations too, with volunteers nearly twice as likely to look for voluntary opportunities online, compared to non-volunteers. 49 per cent of volunteers said they surfed the net to find voluntary work, compared to 25 per cent of non-volunteers.

According to Alan Carter-Davies of Third Sector Media, the research underlines the importance that charities and voluntary organisations should place on having a good website:

“In our experience, many third sector organisations have to settle for second best when it comes to their website, especially small charities and voluntary groups which may be operating on a very small budget. We don’t think that this should be the case though, as having a website that looks good and is easy to use can help organisations, however small, to achieve their aims and carry out the work they do day to day. For example, you can use your website to provide a service to the community or to communicate with the people you need to talk to.

As the research shows, more and more people are using the internet too, so having a strong online presence is becoming evermore crucial for charities and voluntary organisations.”

Third Sector Media specialises in working with charities and voluntary groups and all its profits are either reinvested or go towards funding local community projects, through its partner charity, the Partnership Council.
